Making art in the intersection of fine art and craftwork, I manipulate, layer, and stitch fibers into sculpture, performance, and installation works about humanity’s emotional relationships to ecological narratives.
My work is activated by the universal patterns of nature, connecting the movement of the cells that make up our bodies to the mechanics of the planets in the solar system. A fascination with the macro and the micro lays the foundation for these abstract fiber works. The repetition and resonance of patterns in nature’s design are synthesized into textiles, making visual connections between the phenomena of nature and our own human bodies and experiences.
In my most recent series, Summoning Seeds, the work calls for a collective weaving of new narratives of hope and resilience in face of climate disaster and eco-disaster. Through mixed media, quilted paintings, and fiber sculpture, I’m interested in creating a portal to a future grounded in living in symbiosis with nature. Through this work, I invite viewers to nurture their own seeds of hope or inspiration to help grow our collective narrative out of despair and into optimistic engagement.
